The Thinkpad T430 is great computer, especially because of the ease of service and quality.
You can change the CPU, RAM, hard drive, fan, screen, keyboard and battery.
It was first released in 2012, but with a good i5 CPU and SSD it is still lightning fast.
I expect to use it long in to the future.
This T430 has a broken fan, noticable by the sound it makes.
First I cleaned the fan, but that did not fix the issue, so I decided to replace it.
To prevent the computer from short-circuiting remove electricity.
In this case the battery.
Use your fingernails or a plastic card and stick it between the plastic parts.
This part is difficult, and I fear to break the plastic, but I have done this twice now without a problem.
Clean the old thermal paste from the top of the cpu.
Use the isopropyl alcohol and tissue paper.
The old fan is made by Toshiba. I read on the internet that they spin faster but break more often.
The new fan is made by Delta. Delta fans last longer.
I had difficulty putting the fan in. I tried to push to no success.
Then I tried a different approach and pulled it in. Then the fan popped in with a slam.
Put the palmrest back on, remember to plug in the ribbon cable, otherwise the touchpad won't work.
